Tips for ski holidays with children

Published 23 January 2023

Ski holidays are a great way to explore the outdoors with children and to enjoy the mountain air, while taking advantage of the many winter activities available. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced skier, planning a ski trip with your children can be enjoyable and rewarding with a few tips in mind.

First off, safety is key. Make sure your children are wearing properly fitted ski safety gear such as helmets, insulating winter jackets, waterproof pants and thick boots. Have them practice good skiing etiquette and techniques, so they don’t put themselves or others at risk.

Additionally, it's important to pick the right resort for your children. If they are experienced skiers, a full-service resort with plenty of runs and activities might be the way to go. For younger skiers, consider less crowded resorts, lower elevations, and adequate ski school offerings.

Another important factor to consider for ski holidays with children is selecting the right lodging. Consider apartments, condos, or lodges that offer kitchens, several bedrooms, and in-house activities like a pool, outdoor hot tub, or game room. Also, make sure the resort has easy access to ski lifts or gondolas so your children can get to the top of the mountain without a long hike.

When it comes to skiing, keep it fun! Setting achievable goals can help your children stay motivated and reach their highest potential. In addition, plan rest days or mix up the skiing strength with some other activities like snowtubing, snowshoeing, or snowmobiling.

Last but not least, don’t forget to take some time to relax. Enjoy a bit of skiing yourself, take a break for lunch, and don’t be afraid to treat your children to a hot cocoa or a snack break. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, try a new activity such as mountaineering, zip lining, or night skiing. This can help break up the routine and stir up some extra excitement for the holiday.

By following these tips, you’ll ensure that you and your family can have a great and safe ski holiday. Invest in the right gear, pick an appropriate resort, find comfort and convenience at the lodge, make skiing fun and rewarding, and don’t forget to have some fun along the way. Happy skiing!
