Ski Resort Description

Soldeu

Since they joined forces, the Grandvalira super-ski area has linked the resorts of Soldeu and Pas de la Casa with over 200km of slopes! This impressive lift system has state-of-the-art gondolas and fast chairs, which really do allow you to get some piste-miles under your belt.  After a day on the slopes, try some tapas and discover the Catalan influences in the food, drink and lively après-ski. The excellent ski schools ensures most of the staff speak English - ideal for you and your families/friends making first contact with the snow. Intermediates have an excellent selection of blue and red runs to choose from. If you're an advanced skier or boarder, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the off-piste opportunities. Snowboarding in Soldeu has vastly improved in recent times with a selection of jumps and snowboarding park with a sound system.

El Tarter

The ski village of El Tarter provides a peaceful gateway to an impressive network of slopes. Blue slopes take skiers and riders towards Soldeu from where they can go onwards and upwards  to the highest point in this sector: the summit of Tossal de la Llosada, at 2,560m (8,400ft). It may look like a smallish dot on the map but it punches way above its weight, with everything from some excellent power skiing in the huge bowl above Riba Scorxada, and comfortable beginner and lower intermediate slopes at the Espiolets Plateau gateway which it shares with Soldeu, just two miles away.

Things to Do

Duty free shopping trips to Andorra la Vella

The capital, Andorra la Vella, will provide you with more than 400 shops offering tax-free goods. Although there is a dominance of sports shops, specialising in cycling, skiing and mountain equipment, there is also a wide range of fashion and jewellery shops, restaurants and bars and there's even a chocolate factory. If you fancy something luxurious or just a simple souvenir, the Andorra la Vella shopping scene has it all.

Spa and wellness trips

Whether you're looking for a relaxing family day out, or wanting some adults only time by the pool, Soldeu has spa and wellness facilities to fit all. The Caldea Spa located in Andorra La Vella offers a range of massage therapies, beauty treatments and is Europe's largest mountain spa. However, if you'd prefer to stay in resort, the Sports Hotel Wellness Spa has hydrotherapy baths overlooking the slopes and is available to non-residents at an extra charge.

Snowmobiling

Jump on a snowmobile and experience Soldeu to the fullest. Make the most of the guided tours that are available or create your own adventure and follow marked trails alone. If you're hoping for a little more excitement, night tours are also available in resort through request. Snowmobile drivers are required to be 18 years and over but children are welcome when accompanied by an adult.

Ice activities

There is a wide variety of winter excursions offered around Soldeu with the Canillo Olympic Palace offering a range of ice activities like ice hockey, ice karting and artistic ice skating. The venue has stands for 1,700 spectators and has an Olympic size ice rink. You can even learn how to build an igloo which is great fun for the children.

Dog sledging

Also known as 'Mushing', take a guided tour around the peaks lead by a group of Siberian huskies. Choose to take charge and control the sled, assisting the dogs on their run, or sit back and relax in the passenger seat making sure to enjoy the snowy scenery of the Grandvalira.

Paragliding

Add a touch of adrenaline to your holiday and experience a birds eye view of Soldeu through paragliding. No previous experience is needed and there are multiple types of flight on offer with an amazing selection of guides. If you'd like to capture that unforgettable moment, some flights are documented with photo and video imagery available for purchase at the end of your ride.

Zip wire

The Grandvalira zipline, 40 meters high and 550 meters long, gives you some of the best possible views of the mountains and Llac del Forn lake. You can either sit down and cruise or if you're feeling daring enough ride horizontally and prepare to fly.

Snow shoeing and cross country skiing

If you'd prefer to explore the winter landscape by foot we'd recommend trying snow shoeing or cross country skiing. Both are relatively easy and only take place on flat, smooth ground. Using poles and your own strength you wade through the snow, making it fantastic exercise as well as a lot of fun. A highlight about these activities is that they take place away from the busy pistes, allowing you to explore the quieter, untouched parts of Soldeu.

Après ski

The après ski in Soldeu is not to be missed due to unbeatable tax free prices. Soldeu sticks to it's roots with traditional rustic nightclubs and bars. A favourite of ours would be Fat Alberts, located in a converted 300 year old barn this pub provides great atmosphere and is a popular choice with both tourists and locals. The venue provides regular live music and also offers a restaurant side for those of you looking for something more laidback.
