Ski Resort Description

Val di Fassa (Canazei & Campitello)

The Val di Fassa sits within the Dolomiti Superski area, directly on the famous Sella Ronda circuit, and enjoys some spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. Stretching 9km from Canazei to Pozza there are a number of small villages in between, Canazei and Campitello make fantastic bases for your trip to the Dolomiti Superski area.

Besides the obvious attractions of the enormous ski area offering more than 1,200km of pistes, renowned as an intermediate skiers heaven, Val di Fassa is also famous for Italian hospitality. Delicious restaurants serving local, home-cooked cuisine, you can expect a lively après ski scene and plenty of traditional culture and history.

Non-skiers can look forward to valley walks and cross-country trails. Canazei’s centre has shops, terrace cafes, and a unique indoor water park and spa centre.

Things to Do

Val di Fassa restaurants, food and drink

One of the main attractions of Canazei and the Dolomiti ski area is the many great restaurants to dine in. Being in Italy, Val di Fassa has a wonderful selection of pizzas, pasta and much more.

But one of the really fascinating things about this area is the mix of Italian and Austrian influence on the cuisine, and this is very noticeable as you ski around the Sella Ronda because you’ll ski in and out of two different Italian regions. So one mountain restaurant will serve pasta for lunch, and another will have goulash.

The local culture and language is called ‘Ladin’ and there are many local restaurants where you can sample the typical cuisine.

If you’re looking for something a little more along the lines of fine dining while you ski, then head over to Alta Badia area of the Sella Ronda (around La Villa , Badia etc.) where the mountain and village restaurants have gourmet ski food that is not to be missed during your stay.

The mountain restaurants are a must, with Baita Checco (above Vigo di Fassa) hailed as being ‘the best cooking in Val di Fassa’, and Baita Cuz on Pozza serving up some seriously lovely Ladin cuisine.

Val di Fassa après, bars, clubs and nightlife

Nightlife and ski culture in Canazei consists of celebrating a good day of skiing in the warm Italian mountain sun with a large glass of wine. Enoteca Valentini is the home to over 800 different kinds of wines and is owned and managed by a wine expert.

The Cliff bar has Austrian early evening style Apré and the Garni International slope side is popular with Inghams guests.

There is Baita Cuz for some afternoon snow and sun basking, Into the night there is Paradis club, which is best described as a pub-disco-logcabin. The Kaiserkeller and The Hexen Klub (Tues, Thurs & Sat) both remain open late into the night.

Val di Fassa shopping

All along the main street in Canazei (Via Roma) you will find a lively gaggle of shops and boutiques selling sporting goods, souvenirs, clothes and shoes, sweet treats, health foods and delicatessens with local food, as well as pharmacies and interior decorations.

If you are searching for a chemist, you will find the Farmacia Ladina on Strada Statale delle Dolomiti.

Val di Fassa spas and relaxation

Some of our Inghams partner hotels in Val di Fassa have some outstanding spa facilities on site. Some places have small indoor swimming pools, whereas others offer saunas, whirlpools, steam baths and Turkish baths. See individual hotels descriptions for full details.

If you’re looking for a real treat (you are going on holiday, after all!) then there is the Dolaondes Aquatic Centre with Eghes Spa. Try one of the spas wonderful thermal treatments including mud therapy, balneotherapy and relaxing therapeutic massages.

Val di Fassa arts, culture and events

There are three museums in the Val di Fassa area that are worth a visit if you are interested in culture and history. The Museo Ladin de Fascia takes an intimate look at the ingenuous culture of the Ladin people- who lived and worked in the perilous mountain regions for hundreds of years. Museum of the Great War pays a humble tribute to the tenacious battles of the Great War when the Italian partisans fought the Austro-Hungarian Empire to keep control of their territory.

There are also lots of sporting events happening throughout the season in Val di Fassa including the Sella Ronda ski marathon, and the Marcialonga cross-country skiing competition in January. If an ice hockey match is on during your stay you should definitely wander along to watch- especially is there is a local derby when it gets really exciting!
